Astral Signal

Gene Harris leans hard into funk here, driving the record with thick keys and a rhythm section that never lets up. The grooves are heavy and repetitive in the best way, built for movement rather than close listening. His piano work stays percussive throughout, adding punch instead of melody for its own sake. By the time the horns kick in on the back half, the whole thing feels like one long, steady build.
