The Dawn

Trumpet over programmed beats shouldn't work this well, but Truffaz treats the horn like another texture in the mix instead of the star of the show. It's nu jazz in the truest sense — trip-hop drums, live bass, trumpet lines that trail off instead of resolving clean. The title track is the whole album in miniature: patient, a little melancholy, never in a hurry to make its point.
