Self Portrait
Ruth Copeland
SoulRuth Copeland came out of the Parliament-Funkadelic orbit and made something stranger and harder to classify than anything George Clinton was doing at the time. The Silent Boatman stretches out into genuine psych-rock territory, fuzz guitar and all. No Commitment is the one with the most bite, vocal-wise. This is a record that got buried by its own weirdness in 1970 and never really dug itself out.
