Heavily influenced by Prince and Sly Stone, but Van Hunt had enough of his own voice that it never feels like imitation. The guitars are sharp, the rhythm section is locked, and his falsetto cuts through without any of the overwrought runs that filled neo soul at the time. 'Dust' is the song that gets people, but the whole record is tight and consistent. Confident debut.
