Arthur Verocai

Lush string arrangements, electric bass lines that actually move, and production that sounds expensive without being cold. Verocai recorded this in '72 and it got almost no attention until producers started sampling it decades later — the drums and bass on several tracks have shown up in a lot of places you'd recognize. The orchestration is the main event but the grooves underneath it are what make those samples so good. It rewards close listening.
