Hard production, regional identity, and a group that could actually rap — Crucial Conflict didn't sound like anything else coming out in '96. The beats hit heavy and the cadences are aggressive without being one-note. 'Ride the Rodeo' showed up everywhere but the album around it holds up too. Chicago street rap with its own distinct energy.
