Kynard was underrecorded, which makes a record like this worth tracking down. The organ tone is deep and churning, the band swings loose, and the whole session has a live-room energy that studio polish would have ruined. A few tracks stretch out and find a groove that just cycles and cycles. West Coast funk and jazz blurred together without any category anxiety.
