Quik has always been one of the most technically gifted producers in West Coast rap, and this record shows that skill in a more relaxed, confident mode than some of his earlier work. The funk grooves are deep and the live instrumentation gives everything a real warmth — bass guitar sitting thick under crispy hi-hats. Even the slower tracks have a momentum to them because the arrangements are just so clean. Nobody else sounds quite like this.
