Porter's debut is rooted in jazz and gospel, and the production doesn't try to modernize either — it lets both breathe naturally. His voice is enormous, but the arrangements stay simple enough that the songs have room to move. The live band keeps everything grounded: piano, upright bass, and drums that play with the pocket rather than locking in hard. A strong first statement from someone who clearly had a lot to say.
