Antiphon

Alfa Mist taught himself piano off YouTube tutorials before he ever touched a studio, and there's something in the way he plays here — a little unschooled, all feel — that gives this record its character. The rhythm section locks into hip hop pocket while the horns float jazz on top. "Antiphon II" is where that mix clicks hardest. Understated the whole way through, never showing off.
