Brown was barely into his twenties when he cut this and it doesn't matter — the voice is already fully formed, silk over Black Ark-adjacent rhythms. "Whip Them Jah" and the title cut are the ones that stick, but the whole thing rides one gorgeous, unhurried groove. If you only know him from later comps, this is where the reputation actually starts.
