Humphrey's flute floats over thick, funky basslines and crisp drum breaks that never let the groove sag. The arrangements are lush without being overstuffed, with strings and keys filling in just enough space. "Chicago, Damn" shows the record's political edge, but most of the album just locks into a deep pocket and stays there. It's jazz-funk with real muscle behind the polish.
