He's Coming

Before the vibraphone got smoothed out into elevator jazz-funk, this is what Ayers sounded like reaching for it. The title track stretches out with horns and a groove that never rushes anywhere — that's the whole point. "Gospel Trane" is the deep cut worth digging for, moody and patient in a way the hits never bothered being. Early Ubiquity, still finding its groove, but that search is half the charm.
