Green goes fully into funk territory here, and the guitar tone alone tells you where his head was at in '69. "Ease Back" rides a groove so tight it barely needs a melody — just vamp and pocket. This is Blue Note chasing the same crossover sound Idris Muhammad and Lonnie Smith were working, and it mostly lands. Not his most celebrated record, but the rhythm section alone makes it worth the spin.
