Modal JazzBlue Note let Moncur stretch out here with Wayne Shorter and Herbie Hancock, and the whole record breathes because of it. No walking bass to hang onto, just modal shapes that open up wide — "Nomadic" is the one where everybody sounds like they're discovering the tune together. Dense but never cluttered. This is 1965 modal jazz at its most patient.
