Soulsinger

Before the major label version of Ledisi, there was this — rawer, jazzier, cut with her band Anibade in Oakland. Her voice has grit here that got smoothed out later on bigger records. "Get Ready" is the one where she really lets the runs go, no restraint. It's a self-released record and sounds like one, but that looseness is exactly what makes it worth hearing.
