Birchall's tenor is full and unhurried, and the modal framework he works in here gives the band room to sustain tension without forcing resolution. The rhythm section locks in early and holds the center while the horns push outward. It draws clearly from the Coltrane lineage without trying to replicate it. Long-form tracks that justify their length.
