East Coast Hip HopG Rap was already one of the most technically advanced rappers working when this dropped, and this album is him at full intensity. The production pulls from hard-edged soul and street-level funk, giving the beats a grimier texture than the polished major-label rap coming out around the same time. His internal rhyme schemes and storytelling are dense enough that you catch new things on repeat listens. It's a heavy record that doesn't let up.
