Lawrence was playing in McCoy Tyner's band when he cut this, and that spiritual intensity carries over — dense modal compositions with a lot of interplay between the horn and the rhythm section. The piano work is heavy and the drums push the whole thing forward without rushing it. It sits in the same territory as early Impulse Records but has its own distinct feeling. The title track alone is worth tracking this down for.
