Hudson's production style was darker and more abstract than most of his contemporaries, and this album is probably the clearest statement of that. The bass is heavy and low-mixed in a way that feels physically present, and the dub processing leaves lots of negative space around the rhythms. Hudson's vocals push through the murk with real weight. The whole thing sounds like it was recorded in the middle of the night and meant to stay there.
