Brazilian funk and samba rhythms running through American soul and funk arrangements — the combination sounds obvious in retrospect but this record executed it at a level that still holds. The rhythm section is tight and the horn arrangements are punchy without being overworked. 'Maria Fumaça' the title track hits hard out of the gate and sets the tone for everything that follows.
