Fire Eater

Bryant blows tenor like he's got somewhere to be — urgent, a little raw around the edges, over drums that hit harder than most Prestige sessions from this era. The title track earns its name; it doesn't let up. This one got buried under bigger funky-jazz names on the same label, but the groove holds up next to any of them. Skip nothing — it's a tight thirty-some minutes.
