Salsa"Che Che Colé" is the track that made this one matter — Lavoe's phrasing is loose and playful over Colón's trombone-heavy arrangements, and the whole thing swings harder than salsa records twice its budget. Fania was still finding its sound this early, and you can hear this record helping define it. Colón's arrangements are sharp throughout, but Lavoe's voice is the reason it holds up. Start with side one and don't skip the title track.
