Damon Albarn and Richard Russell built this one around drum machines and space, which shouldn't work for a soul singer this old-school but absolutely does. Womack's voice sounds cracked and worn in exactly the right way against the cold electronic bed underneath it. The title track is the moment it all locks — his voice cutting through synth wash like it's fighting for its life. Late-period Womack, and one of his best.
